Kansas City Southern (NYSE: KSU )
The EPA is in the midst of crafting carbon emissions standards for both new and existing power plants. The rules will force the power sector to shutter coal-fired power plants or convert to cleaner energy sources such as natural gas. Railroads, such as Kansas City Southern (NYSE: KSU), transport nearly two-thirds of the coal being used by power plants. Railroads will almost certainly see a steep drop in demand for utility coal transport as the power sector increases its reliance on low carbon energy sources.
